Counselling & Psychotherapy
Whatever has happened or is going on now, I can offer a space to feel heard and accepted
about therapy
People come to therapy for different reasons and with different hopes for how it can help them. You could be struggling with your relationships, with overwhelming feelings, with aspects of your identity, or the impact of trauma/past events. Together we will explore what's going on for you with curiosity and compassion.
Working collaboratively with you at your pace, I can help increase your awareness of the thoughts and feelings that you find hard to make sense of. Openness and honesty are important to me, and I will take steps to ensure you feel as emotionally safe as possible in our sessions. I will empower you in your choices and knowledge of yourself, and I'll consider the unique cultural experiences that shape who you are.
areas of particular experience

about me
No two people are the same or want the same thing from our time together. I am qualified in a number of different therapy approaches which equips me to respond flexibly to what would suit you. Underpinning this, I will bring perspective, creativity, empathy and warmth to the relationship between us.
Trauma-informed practice is an area of specialism for me. I have years of experience working with survivors of sexual abuse and childhood trauma, having worked across a range of mental health organisations in Bristol, Somerset & South Wales. For more info on therapy for trauma, read here...
It is also important to me to work in a way that recognises the many aspects of identity you may hold, whether that's your cultural background, class, gender, disability status or anything else. Social justice and anti-oppressive practice underline my work, and I am LGBTQIA+ affirming.
Experience
As well as my private therapy practice, I work at The Southmead Project as a counsellor for adult survivors of abuse. I have worked as a counsellor and groupwork facilitator at Somerset & Avon Rape & Sexual Abuse Support (SARSAS), as a counsellor at Second Step working with people at risk of homelessness, and as a service manager at Changes Bristol, a mental health charity, providing training, supervision and groupwork facilitation.
I hold an MA in Counselling & Psychotherapy, and have undertaken further detailed training in the following areas: Complex PTSD, childhood abuse, anti-racism in the therapy room, supporting trans & gender diverse clients, fatphobia/body positive therapy, and online therapy.
